java Runtime Engine |
This is a Windows only application. It does not need the Java engine
For maximum security of operation, ppnPRC does not run inside a Web Browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, nor does it use the World Wide Web It runs as a stand-alone Windows application
For maximum security of operation, ppnPRO does not run inside a Web Browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, nor does it use the World Wide Web. Instead, ,it runs in a Java window, on the internet, via a Java Environment called j2re-1_4_2 . You need to download and install this Java 2 Runtime Environment version1.4.2 (j2re-1_4_2) to run ppnPRO.
But first it is a good idea to create a folder to keep all your ACAP ppn stuff in.
On Windows OS, go to C drive/program files, and right click on any white area inside this folder. Select "New Folder" and name it ppnPRO. When you download ppnPRO put it in this folder
A folder called "ppnDownloads" will automatically be created inside this "ppnPRO" folder when you download files. Inside this "ppnDownloads" folder will be the arrival place for all files you download via ppnPro. Of course once they are downloaded, you can move them anyhere you wish.
Next, for Windows users who do not have Java, to get the Java 6 Runtime Environment, click here: get java and save it in you ppn folder
This file is about 14Meg, so depending on your bandwidth, it may or may not take a few minutes.
You should see j2re6 icon inside your ppn folder when this is done
Double click on this icon and follow the install Java instruction from Sun.
Choose "Typical" install not custom install.
(Note: for Mac users the j2re is already built into OS X Panther - see here)
Once Java is installed, then click on the appropriate get ppnPRO download link at the top of this page.
Save the file called ppn_extern.jar into the ppn Folder you created before.
Note: Mac and Unix users will need to right click {or contol click} on this link and use "save linked file as..."
Next open this ppn folder and doubleclick on the file called ppn_extern.jar
After a moment your ppnPRO application will open and you will see some entry fields at the top.
Your Host is 207.38.28.206Your Port is 443
When you established your account you created a user name,a password and an initial group or ppn.
Your group or ppn will whatever name you gave it when you created it on your account management page. You can create as many groups or ppns as you like,- just give each group or ppn a different name and let other users you would like to be part of that group or ppn know what the name of it is. If you know the name of a group or ppn someone else has created for you to be part of, then enter that name next to the group or ppn field.
group or ppn Names and Passwords: group or ppn names can be any alpha numeric characters ( no spaces) . group or ppn passwords can be any alpha numeric characters also, but must contain at least 8 characters.
If you have used ppnPRO previously, ppnPRO remembers your last settings the next time you open it.
Once you have entered the above information, click on the "connect" button - (top far left)To see who else is on your group or ppn network click on the "users" button.
To see what files are available for you, click on the "Files" button where you will see list, send, receive and delete options.
To send a file click on the "send" button under "Files", which will then allow you to browse your computer and select a file to send.
ppnPRO wil also automatically save a log file of each session for your records.(In your ppn folder)For ease of use, all chat and file exchange is automatically encrypted and decrypted (using AES) at each end over one single controlled communication port in this current version. Each user has a different AES key that the server synchronizes to. This is all invisible to the user. Manual encryption will be an option later on (some people may ask "if I can't see it or do it, how do I know it is really encrypted?"). Previously encrypted files may be sent "as is" plus ppn encryption. These files will still retain their previous encryption at the other end.
All types of files can be exchanged, but file names must not have "illegal" characters such as * or $ etc. but single spaces in document names are OK.
